application note:

Determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations with the Stratus Plate Reader

The Stratus plate reader was utilized to determine the MIC of drug compounds against Mycobacterium smegmatis. This application note details the experimental design and results. Tuberculosis remains the most common cause of death from a single infectious pathogen and the drug resistant strains of Mtb pose serious problems in the efforts to lessen the TB burden. Therefore continued research to develop more effective TB drugs is necessary. This application note includes part of a study where the Stratus plate reader was utilized to test two potential TB drugs against a similar strain, M. smegmatis.

In this application note you will learn:

  • How to set up an MIC experiment to be measured in a Stratus microplate reader
  • What kind of data you would expect from an MIC experiment
  • How to utilize a liquid handling robot in conjunction with the Stratus microplate reader to enable small volume drug testing
